I have already been to Portugal, but of course, you can never be somewhere more than once!
When my mother said she wanted to go to Madeira for her 60th birthday, I obviously knew I had to show her a good time. Being budget conscious, I looked outside of the tourist side of town for high quality hotels at a lower price point. The Castenheiro Boutique Hotel was a great find (courtesy of TripAdvisor). Brand new, built in 2015, with an amazing rooftop pool, spa and great restaurant, we were both pleasantly surprised.
The hotel is decorated in a modern yet traditional vibe. We really liked the lobby- lots of comfy seating.
But the view from our room was pretty unparalleled…
…not, as I mentioned, unparalleled as the view from the pool.
Other highlights were the hotel restaurant, which was REALLY good. Try the octopus, and make sure you do the wine pairings.
Also have Carlos or Nuno make you drinks. You’ll find yourself drinking so many you feel comfortable taking selfies at 11pm in the outside bar. Embarrassing. But positive results.
And finally, the room. The room was really nice. Good floor patterns, which is always a bonus.
The bathroom was not only well decorated, but well stocked.
There were also tons of amenities, which I really liked, including the complimentary water. (I think you can drink the tap water, although I had a bit of an odd reaction.)
This is definitely a good place to stay if you find yourself in Funchal!
